Item-Specific PlanningWhat To Consider Before You Send Household Furniture.
Every shipment should be checked against its actual contents, dimensions, packing and route. Use these notes to prepare a specific enquiry before packing or booking.
Preparation Note 01Start With A Room-By-Room Inventory
Make a simple list of the furniture you plan to send: bed frames, mattresses, dining chairs, tables, bookcases, wardrobes, desks or occasional furniture. Record the approximate dimensions of each piece and note which parts come apart. A clear inventory gives the cargo team something concrete to assess and reduces confusion between a quote based on a few items and one that covers a full household load.
Preparation Note 02Measure The Largest Parts
A wardrobe panel, sofa arm or table top may be awkward even when the total weight looks reasonable. Measure length, width and height after dismantling where appropriate. Include protruding feet, handles and fixed fittings. If a piece cannot be dismantled safely, provide the assembled measurements and photographs. These details help the team consider handling, carton or wrapping needs, vehicle access and the space the piece may take during transport.
Preparation Note 03Prepare Surfaces Before Wrapping
Clean furniture before it is covered so grit does not rub into wood, laminate or fabric during handling. Empty drawers and cupboards, remove loose shelves and secure any moving part. Use protective material suitable for the finish, keeping tape away from delicate surfaces. Glass panels, mirrors, marble tops and polished corners need special attention; ask about their acceptance and packing standards before treating them as ordinary furniture.
Preparation Note 04Check What Is Inside The Furniture
Do not use drawers, wardrobes or hollow furniture as an undisclosed space for other goods. Loose contents can shift, add weight and complicate inspection. Pack household items separately and label them clearly. If a piece has built-in electrical fittings or contains batteries, liquids or other unusual components, mention this before collection so the service and carrier requirements can be checked.
Preparation Note 05Plan The Collection And Receiving Address
Furniture creates practical access questions at both ends of a journey. Tell us whether collection is from a house, flat, storage unit or upper floor, and whether a lift or stairwell is involved. In Pakistan, a recipient address should include the neighbourhood, street, house or apartment number and a working contact number. If a large vehicle cannot stop at the property, explain the nearest suitable loading point.
Preparation Note 06Get A Quote That Describes The Real Job
A useful furniture quote should identify the pieces, dimensions, approximate volume, collection location and destination. Ask which stages are included: packing, collection, freight, destination handling and final delivery are not necessarily one package. If furniture is part of a larger move, tell the team whether boxes and personal effects will travel with it. Confirm any restrictions, charges and responsibilities in writing before the shipment is booked.
